1/1/17 State of the Club Report

By

2016 was a fair to good year for the club.  Highlights include:

  • Our attendance was 441 people, which was our tenth best.  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics page.
  • We had 62 events, which was our fifth best.  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics page.
  • We averaged 7.11 attendees per event, which was our twenty-seventh best.  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics page.  This is not a significant concern.  I took guys on 13 events in my boat (eight self-chartered bass fishing trips and five self-guided duck hunts).  As the most people that I can fit in my boat is four, these trips made our overall average lower.
  • We set event category attendance records for deer and hog hunts (15; the old mark was 14) and guided pheasant, chukar, and quail hunts (16; the old mark was 10). Our clay target shoots attendance was our second-best (165; the record is 166).  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics and Attendance pages.
  • We set event attendance records for guided pheasant, chukar, and quail hunts (12; the old mark was 10) and tied the event attendance record for a self-guided largemouth bass fishing trip (4). For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics and Attendance pages.  Also, see our Records page (although there is not a year-by-year comparison).

Analysis

Included were events attendance and averages from 2016 plus a comparison with the past four years, as applicable. Although we had 122 fewer attendees in 2016, we also had 13 fewer events (the reasons for the cancellations were included).  The biggest drops were in our dove hunts, self-chartered bass fishing trips, meetings, and self-guided duck hunts attendance.  We had three fewer dove hunts this year than last due to a lack of birds.  This dropped our attendance by 52.  Meetings were down by 15.  Self-guided duck hunts and self-chartered bass fishing trips were down 13 and 27, respectively, as I was busy house hunting and could not lead as many trips.  Except for meetings, which have been on a downward trend, there are no concerns.

  • We had 5 people join the club (tied for our thirteenth best; the record is 32). For a year-by-year comparison, see our New Members page.
  • We had 28 members renew their memberships (tying our sixth-best; the record is 52 since we kept records in this category). For a year-by-year comparison (since 2006), see our Renewals page.
  • We ended the year with 58 supporting members (our fourth best; the record is 81). For a year-by-year comparison (since 2002), see our Supporting Members Summary page.
  • We had 30 first time guests (tying our tenth best; the record is 50 since we have been keeping records in this category). For a year-by-year comparison (since 2002), see our First Time Guests page.
  • During Fiscal Year 2016 (9/1/15 – 8/31/16), we received $952.30 and spent $1,160.52, for a net loss of $208.22.  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Finances web page.

We have 69 events planned for 2017.  See our Calendar and Upcoming Events page for details.
