10/26/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing and Duck Scouting Trip

One officer and one member (two total participants) had a good time at the 10/26/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing and Duck Scouting Trip on Granger Lake. Randy Rowley caught one black bass and two white bass. Tim Price caught one white bass. They also saw a few ducks.

8/3/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer and one member (two total participants) had a good time at the 8/3/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Travis.  Randy Rowley caught a dink bass on a chartreuse and clear colored Sammy and missed one on a black colored grub.  Ryan Rowley had one hit a cotton candy colored salamander, but it threw the hook.

7/12/13 – 7/14/13 Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip

Two officers, five members, one son, and one nephew (nine total participants) had a good time at the 7/12/13 – 7/14/13 Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip near Aransas Pass. Although the fishing was only fair Roy Brigman caught a 43″ stingray, Trevor Shipper caught a larger stingray but it had lost its tail, and Burl Fulenwider also caught a large stingray, but the net was too small so we couldn’t get it in the boat. Daryl Shipper caught a keeper sized blacktip shark. Greg Moerbe caught a 21″ speckled trout. Trevor caught a 15″ speckled trout. David Smith caught two pompanos. Other fish caught included a red snapper, mangrove snapper, lady fish (baby tarpon), small speckled trout, small redfish, hardhead catfish, and perch. We fished the jetties, South Bay, Steadman’s, the East Flats, and Mud Island. Thanks to David for opening up his home to us and to David, Daryl, and Roy for letting us use their boats.

7/6/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer and two members (three total participants) had a good time at the 7/6/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Decker. We arrived at the hot water discharge at first light and were greeted with dozens of shad hitting the top of the water. Surprizingly, the bass didn’t start hitting them until around an hour later. We threw everything but the kitchen sink at them, but couldn’t entice a bite until they finally started to hit shad colored lipless crankbaits. Randy Rowley caught a 19 3/4 incher and a freshwater drum. He also had two other bass on that got off the hooks. Jeff Cates caught a 18 incher and a 16 3/4 incher and a 12″ channel catfish. He also had a bass on that got to keep his Bettlespin lure. We then moved to the lily pads and reeds, but had no bites. We ended the day at the dam, where Randy caught an 18 incher on an Xcalibur 6XD in Sexy Shad. Stephen Marlow was skunked.

6/29/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer and one member (two total participants) had a good time at the 6/29/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Austin. We arrived an hour before first light but there was no night fishing bite. We primarily fished Bull Creek. Tim Price caught a dink bass and a large perch. Randy Rowley caught a dink bass on a black Jitterbug. The heat and all the boat traffic drove us off the lake by 11:00 AM.

6/24/13 Chartered Hybrid Bass Catching Trip

Two officers, two members, and one guest (five total participants) had a great time at the 6/24/13 Chartered Hybrid Bass Catching Trip with guide Jay Garrett on Lake Belton. A limit of 25 hybrids and three white bass were caught (28 total fish). We had a fish on before the second pole could be set! It was non-stop catching until we had 21 fish in the boat. It then slowed down, but it still only took around an hour to limit out. Of note was Chris Rowley catching two hybrids on one hook. It appears that Vicki McGee had a fish on that swam under the boat. Somehow, the eye of the hook got caught onto and transferred over to Chris’ line. The line ran into the mouth of one fish and through it’s gills. The line (and hook) continued to the other fish, which had the hook attached to it’s lip. The end result was Chris had two hooks on her line and two fish and Vicki had no hook on her line. Now, what are the odds of that?

6/23/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

Two officers and one member (three total participants) had a great time at the 6/23/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip to Lake Fayette. Jim McGee caught the first three fish (two on a Heddon Chuggar Spook and the third one on a worm). Randy Rowley then caught the next two fish (one on a worm and one on a Bomber Fat Free Shad deep diving crank bait). Roy Brigman than caught the last fish on a deep diving crank bait. Randy had two on his line on top water lures, but they both threw the lures (one almost straight back at him). Roy had two others on. One threw the lure. The other, after stripping out drag, got off deep. Jim had at least one other fish on that got off. The smallest fish was 16 1/4″ (Randy’s and Jim’s) and the largest was 19″ (Randy’s).

6/10/13 Chartered Hybrid Bass Catching Trip

One officer, three members, and one guest (five total participants) had a good time at the 6/10/13 Chartered Hybrid Bass Catching Trip with guide Jay Garrett on Lake Belton. Eighteen hybrids were caught, mostly around 8:40 PM on the way back in.

6/8/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer, one member, and one son (three total participants) had a good time on the 6/8/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Travis. Randy Rowley caught two bass (one on a bass colored Zara Spook Jr. and one on a black glitter grub) and one perch (also on the grub). Harrison DeShazo also caught two bass (one on a bass colored Baby Torpedo and one on a watermelon red grub) and a perch (also on the Torpedo). Flint DeShazo was skunked. None of the bass were keeper sized (Randy caught the biggest – a 13 1/4 incher). He also caught the smallest fish – a perch barely bigger than the grub he caught it on.

6/2/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer, one member, and one youth guest (three total participants) had a good time on the 6/2/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Travis. Michael Beaver caught three bass, all on Big Bite watermelon grubs. One was a keeper (14″). Burl Fulenwider caught two on the same grubs. Randy Rowley caught one on the same grub and one on a Xcalibur Foxy Shad lipless crankbait. Another one got off his crankbait. The bass caught on the grub bass was the biggest he’s ever caught on Travis, 18″ – around 3 lbs. He then hooked what felt like an even bigger bass with his next cast. He was getting the bass up but it dove and wrapped itself around an underwater cable by a dock (probably) and he couldn’t get it free.

6/1/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

Two officers and one member (three total participants) had a good time on the 6/1/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Austin. We were going to fish Decker Lake, but when we got there we saw a sign that the lake/park was closed for a women’s triathlon. Still, we make it to Mary Quinlin park on Lake Austin (Plan B) before sunrise. Randy Rowley caught two (one on a Xcalibur Sexy Mama lipless crankbait and the other on a chartreuse and white spinnerbait). Jim McGee caught one on a Chuggar popper. Tim Price caught one on a Rebel stickbait.

4/21/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer and one member (two total participants) had a good time at Lake Travis near Dink Pearson park on a slow fishing day. Randy Rowley caught three bass and Roy Brigman caught two. Both fishermen had other fish on that got off their hooks. Randy caught two and Roy caught one on Storm green/chartreuse Rattlin’ Chug Bugs. The other two bass were caught on lipless crankbaits.

4/20/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer and one member (two total participants) had a good time at Lake Fayettee on a slow fishing day. Randy Rowley caught two bass (a 17 incher and a 16 incher) and Roy Brigman caught a 17 incher). Roy had another one on that got off as it was coming to the boat.

3/30/13 Self-chartered White Bass Fishing Trip

One guest had a good time at the 3/30/13 Self-chartered White Bass Fishing Trip on Granger Lake on the San Gabriel River. Binh Chu caught a couple mid-size bass on spinnerbaits and three crappies on pink tube jigs.

3/30/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer, one member, and one son (three total participants) had a great time at the 3/30/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Travis near Dink Pearson park. Randy Rowley caught eight bass (four keepers) and one crappie and had three other bass get off the hook, all on a Foxy Shad lipless crankbait in shad color, except for one escapee that was hooked on a white grub. Darryl Swann caught four bass, a nice white bass, and a 6 1/2 lb. channel catfish on a variety of lures. Caleb Swann caught a white crappie and a black crappie, both on a baby torpedo topwater. This was the most bass that Randy has ever caught on a lake.

2/23/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

One officer and two members (three total participants) had a good time at the 2/23/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Bastrop. Bill Smith caught a 20” 3 1/8 lb. bass on a yellow spinnerbait and a 14 ½” bass on a green grub. Randy Rowley caught a 19 ½” bass on a bass colored Zara Spook Jr. Burl Fulenwider caught a 13 ½” bass on a red and chartreuse rattletrap.

2/18/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

Two officers and one member (three total participants) had a good time at the 2/18/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Travis. Randy Rowley caught three – two on a foxy shad lipless crankbait and one on of a chartreuse roadrunner. Jim McGee caught one on a chartreuse roadrunner. Burl Fulenwider was skunked. It was very windy and hard to keep the boat on station. The trolling motor battery was drained by 11:00 AM.
