One officer, 11 members, and five guests (including three first time guests) – 17 total participants (including five ladies) had a good time at the 8/11/14 FCS Meeting at the Shady Oaks Gun Range (SOGR). Thanks to Paul Irwin for allowing FCS to use SOGR’s meeting room. Tracy Thronburg, a certified NRA instructor in several categories and CHL instructor, spoke about how to involve women in shooting sports. Paul spoke about SOGR and the training they offer. Randy Rowley led a Bible study on Thirst. SOGR has excellent range bays that are a foot wider than typical. They allow rifle, shotgun (slug only), and handgun shooting of every bullet type except tracers, incendiary, and explosive (the backstop is made out of hard rubber). Their facility is very clean and they even have a lounge in the ladies room. They sell bullets of all types including .22’s. They are very family and lady friendly.

All categories with two exceptions are equal to or better than 2011 – 2013. The exceptions include dinners (which is hard to judge as we have not had our annual dinner yet), officers meetings (attendance will be lower when compared with previous years as we now have three fewer officers), and pheasant, chuckar, and quail hunt attendance was down slightly from last year. All in all things are going great!
2. Financial/Treasurers Report (by Kevin Wall) (See the Finances page for details.)
3. Webmaster Report (by Bruce Crockett) – WordPress 3.9.1 was automatically installed on 6/18/14. The installation was successful.
4. Whether FCS meetings should continue in their present form. The officers discussed the fact that meetings require considerable work in shopping for food, hauling cooking equipment to meetings, food prep, cooking, and cleaning. The officers decided that for future meetings we will ask the host how he would like food to be handled. If he would like to do a shrimp boil, for example, then he can buy the food and receive reimbursement at the meeting. Other options will include doing a pot luck, where people sign up to bring a dish, or ordering pizza after we arrive. The officers decided to discontinue our present system of one man (presently the president) buying all of the food for the meetings, preparing it, cooking it, and seeking reimbursement.
5. Dealing with inappropriate behaviors during events. The officers decided that we did not need to develop bylaws for such an eventuality. If inappropriate behavior is encountered the president, a vice president, or the event leader will address it at the time. The offender will be told exactly what behavior much change. If the offender does not comply the leader can decline to allow him to participate for a portion of the event (e.g., a specific hunt) or for the entire event.
6/19/14 FCS Meeting
Three officers, six members, and one first time guest (10 total participants) had a good time at the 6/19/14 FCS Meeting at Larry Dowden’s home, featuring our annual fajita dinner. Thanks to Larry for sharing his home and for Larry and Randy Rowley for cooking. The DVD Spiritual Outdoor Adventures: The Brahma Buck (featurettes two and three) was shown.
President’s Report:
Events – from 4/10/14 through 6/18/14 we had 12 events with an attendance of 81 people, which is an average of 6.75 people per event. We have 13 events planned from 6/19/14 until our next meeting on 8/11/14. See our Calendar and Upcoming Events web page for details.
Membership – from 4/10/14 through 6/18/14 we had three men join the Club, four members renew their memberships, and three first time guests.

The installation was successful. The month-at-a-glance calendar was deleted due to the results of a 2/18/14 officers vote and a 2/3/14 member’s poll that showed that only 16% of members who responded used the month-at-a-glance calendar.

Of significance is the fact that hunts fell only four attendees short of tying clay target shoots, something that hasn’t come close to happening in many years.

3. Webmaster Report (by Bruce Crockett) – WordPress 3.8 was successfully installed. Some plug-ins had to be reinstalled but all seem to be working now, including the Calendar plug-in, which had stopped working.
4. Re-distribution of labor due to the loss of three officers. It was decided that the Vice Presidents would begin to ensure that events that they are in charge of promoting and planning are reported on.
