2019 – Banquet

3/27/19 FCS Family Banquet

25 participants had a great time at the Annual FCS Family Banquet on 3/27/19 at Green Mesquite BBQ.  The food and the venue were great!  We had more room than at previous banquets in their private room and were able to order from the menu and pay separately.  David Morris, co-owner of Tecomate Wildlife Systems, one of the nation’s largest suppliers of wildlife management services and products, shared his history with deer management, big game hunting in Africa, his personal testimony, and an exhortation to share Christ. The following awards were given for 2018:

Largest Freshwater Fish Caught – Daniel Fulenwider – 24” Striped Bass on the 5/7/18 Chartered Striped/Hybrid Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Buchanan.  The following people also landed fish that were measured:

  • Jim McGee – 21 ½” black bass on 5/28/18 on Lake Pflugerville
  • Ryan Rowley – 17 ¾” black bass on 3/31/18 on Lake Pflugerville
  • Randy Rowley – 17 ¼” black bass on 3/31/18 on Lake Pflugerville
  • Randy Rowley – 16 ½” black bass on 10/20/18 on Lake Stillhouse Hollow
  • Jim McGee – 14 ½” black bass on 10/20/18 on Lake Stillhouse Hollow
  • Roland Olivarez – 14” black bass on 2/24/18 on Lake Austin

Burl Fulenwider accepted the award for Daniel – a certificate and a Zebco rod and reel combo.

Largest Saltwater Fish Caught – Harley Chu – 41” bull redfish caught on the 6/7/18 – 6/10/18 Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip at Port O’Connor. 

The following people also landed fish on that trip that were measured:

  • Burl Fulenwider caught a 40 ¼” bull redfish
  • Zack Tumlinson caught a 39” bull redfish
  • Jim McGee caught a 38” black drum
  • Harley Chu caught a 38” bull redfish
  • Binh Chu caught a 37” bull redfish
  • Yuri Gonzales caught a 36” bonnethead shark
  • Burl Fulenwider caught a 28” bull redfish
  • Wayne Weilnau caught a 28” jack crevalle
  • Wayne Weilnau caught a 24” redfish
  • Mark Moore caught a 24” speckled trout
  • Randy Rowley caught a 24” bonnethead shark

Harley was presented with a certificate, two 5 x 7 pictures of him in a frame, and a 365 day devotional from Jimmy Houston from Wayne Weilnau, who donated the awards.

Largest Big Game Animal Taken – Binh Chu – 8 point buck taken on the 12/14/18 – 12/16/18 Self-guided Deer and Hog Hunt near Junction.  The following people also took game:

  • Randy Rowley shot a 6 point buck.
  • Ryan Rowley shot a doe.

Binh was presented with a certificate and a blood tracker/flashlight.

Most Sporting Clays Wins in 2018 – Bruce Crockett – 5 out of 11 shoots (45%).  The following people also won shoots:

  • Mike Walsh – 4
  • Christian Spies – 3
  • Randy Rowley – 1

Bruce was presented with a certificate and a one year membership certificate from Copperhead Creek Shooting Club. (a $350 value)

Highest Sporting Clays Average in 2018 – Bruce Crockett – 42.73/50 for 11 shoots.  The following people had averages over 35, with a minimum of 5 shoots:

  • Mike Walsh – 40.22 for 9 shoots
  • Randy Rowley – 37.63 for 8 shoots
  • Paul Ellis – 36.55 for 11 shoots

Bruce was presented with a certificate.  However, as he had already been presented with a one year membership certificate from Copperhead Creek (a $350 value), he presented the certificate to the runner-up – Mike Walsh.

High Sporting Clays Score for 2018 – Christian Spies – 48/50.  The following people shot 45/50 or better:

  • Christian Spies – 47/50
  • Bruce Crockett – 46/50
  • Steve Baker – 45/50
  • Bruce Crockett – 45/50
  • Jonathan Fleming – 45/50
  • Mike Walsh – 45/50

Christian was presented with a certificate and a certificate for a one year membership at Capital Clays (a $225 value).

Most First Time Guests Invited in 2018 – Randy Rowley – 3 people. The following people also invited guests:

  • Vince Berry – 2
  • Bruce Crockett – 2
  • Burl Fulenwider – 2
  • Jim McGee – 2
  • Chris Rowley – 2
  • Clayton Carrier – 1
  • Binh Chu – 1
  • Ian Daniels – 1

Randy was presented with a certificate and a $25 gift card from Smoky Mo’s BBQ.

Most FCS Events Attended in 2018 by a Member – Burl Fulenwider – 15/76 events.  The following members also attended six or more events:

  • Jim McGee – 12
  • Mike Walsh – 12
  • Binh Chu – 10
  • Earl Prochnick – 9
  • Wayne Weilnau – 9

Burl was presented with a certificate and a $25 gift card from Smoky Mo’s BBQ.

Most FCS Events Attended in 2018 by an Officer – Most FCS Events Attended in 2018 by an Officer – Randy Rowley – 44/76 events.  The following officer also attended at least six events:

  • Bruce Crockett – 27
  • Ian Daniels – 6

Randy was presented with a certificate and a $25 gift card to Smoky Mo’s BBQ.

2018 Sportsman of the Year – Bruce Crockett won a run-off vote, originally tying with Wayne Weilnau.  The following members also receive votes:

  • Binh Chu
  • Daryl Shipper
  • Mike Walsh

Bruce was presented with our perpetual plaque and a Gerber lockable multi-tool.

Surprise Award – Bruce Crockett, on behalf of the officers, also presented Randy Rowley with gift cards to Bass Pro Shops and Texas Roadhouse for his work for the Club.

FCS would like to thank the Copperhead Creek Shooting Club, Capital Clays, Smokey Mo’s BBQ, Wayne Weilnau, and the Officers for their generous donations.
