2023 Shoots Reports
By5/7/23 Student Sporting Clays Shoot (Report by Allen Gann)
Three participants had a good time at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio. Well I’m not sure I can articulate this event well enough to give it the credit it deserves. The venue of course speaks for itself. World class all the way, from beginner to master level shooters it can accommodate all. As for the event itself Awesome!!! The instructor and the instruction were awesome. All the level 1 instructor trainees were really very good. I know they received new insight from the challenges they had with the different shooters, and the same goes for us the shooters. The knowledge base these instructors from beginner to master level was very impressive. From figuring out if the shooter was having dominant eye issues to mounting issues they worked it out so the student shooters knew what to work on, what to fix with shotgun fittings issues. Without a doubt it’s the best $35.00 lesson anyone could have. They were short on shooters so needless to say we shot a lot of shells – 10 box’s for a few of us. If you were unable to attend try not to the next time they offer it (every other year I think) – it’s worth every cent spent.
4/18/23 – 4/23/23 NSCA State Sporting Clays Tournament
Two participants participated in the 2023 NSCA Texas State Sporting Clays Championship at the National Sporting Clay Complex in San Antonio.
A severe thunderstorm hit Thursday night dropping nearly 5″ of rain on San Antonio, causing a day long power outage at the complex. The main clubhouse was on a generator during the outage, however, there were no lighting in the bathrooms. Also, the building on vendor row had no power to conduct transactions. There was also some limb and tree damage from the winds.
On Sunday, another storm came through the night and dropped the temperatures. Shooters faced temperatures at 54 degrees and wind gusts up to 29 mph, which caused the targets to move in a direction that was not intended.
The targets on the Main Event were very challenging, and there weren’t any easy targets in the event, as you would expect at this level of shooting. There were 985 total shooters participating.
