4/11/11

By

The January – March quarter of 2011 was a great one, attendance wise, for FCS.  Our attendance was 117 people, which was our third best for this quarter; however, if you take away the 25 Buda Chapter (which we no longer have) participants for this quarter in 2008 (for an apples to apples comparison) then this would have been our second best attendance for this quarter.  We blew away what was our average for this quarter (66.77).

We had 11 events, which tied our third best for this quarter.  However, we canceled six events or they didn’t happen because no one showed up:

  • Saturday, 1/1/11, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM – “Bring in the New Year” Shooting Range Shoot at the Eagle Peak Shoot Range near Jonestown.  No one attended, to my knowledge.
  • Friday, 12/31/10 through Sunday, 1/2/11 – Winter Dove Retreat at Lee Ewald’s ranches near Dilley.  No one attended, to my knowledge.
  • Sunday, 1/2/11, 12:45 – 3:45 PM – Year End Finale (Sporting Clays Tournament) at the Capitol City Trap & Skeet Club ( 8707 Lindell Lane , Austin , 512-272-4707).  No one was interested.
  • Friday, 1/28/11 through Sunday, 1/30/11 – Non-Guided Hog Hunt at a location to be announced.  We were not able to find a location.
  • Friday, 2/25/11 through Sunday, 2/27/11 – Non-Guided Hog Hunt at a location to be announced.  We were not able to find a location.
  • Saturday, 3/19/11 – Non-Chartered White Bass Fishing Trip at Colorado Bend State Park.  Canceled due to lack of interest/other commitments.

We had eight members renew their memberships and 10 first time guests.

We did not have anyone join the Club during this quarter and had no votes or polls.  Of greater concern than not picking up any new members and canceling/not having scheduled events is the fact that we are down to 39 supporting members, which is 17 below where we were on 12/31/10, a little over three months ago!  This is the lowest number of supporting members that we have had since 2003!  If this trend continues we will eventually either be forced to significantly cut our expenses and/or raise our renewal dues or start having FCS Bake Sales!  If your membership has expired please consider renewing today.  All that is required is to mail your $20.00 membership due check to Kevin Wall, FCS Treasurer, at 205 Covala Drive, Cedar Park, TX, 78613.  Please do not mail cash.  Make your check out to “FCS.”  You can also deliver cash to Kevin or me at any FCS event, our homes, or wherever you see us.  If you’re not on the Membership Renewals page (last updated on 4/11/11) then your membership has expired.  I am not concerned about how many supporting members we have.  What concerns me is that we are able to meet our expenses.

As a reminder, all supporting FCS adult members receive:

  • Quarterly newsletter, Annual Calendar, and Annual Membership directory (for members who do not have web access).

All supporting FCS adult members have the following rights:

  • Make amendment proposals to the FCS Bylaws, Statement of Faith, Annual Calendar of Events, and/or Annual Fiscal Year Budget;
  • Participate in all supporting FCS member discussions and votes; and
  • Check out (borrow) FCS equipment items, videos, and books.

All supporting FCS adult members will have their articles, business directory information, classified ads, hunting and fishing stories, jokes, links, members profiles, pictures, poems, product and service reviews and recommendations, recipes, safety tips, and useful information for sportsmen submissions posted on the FCS website.
