2026 Banquet Report

4/29/26 FCS Family Celebration Banquet

Twenty one participants had a great time at La Margarita Restaurante in Round Rock.  The food and the venue were great, as usual.  Chester Moore shared several fascinating stories including fishing for peacock bass and cage diving with great white sharks, and his incredible testimony on how he met Christ, his spiritual journey, and about his ministries – Higher Calling Wildlife®, Wild Wishes® program, and Kingdom Zoo Wildlife Center®.

Chester is an American wildlife journalist, conservationist, author, and speaker known for his work in hunting, fishing, wildlife conservation, and youth outreach programs.  He is widely recognized in outdoor media and conservation circles, particularly in Texas.

Early Career and Journalism

Chester began his career as a wildlife journalist at age 19, quickly establishing himself as a respected voice in outdoor reporting and conservation storytelling.

He later became Editor-in-Chief of Texas Fish & Game magazine, one of the largest outdoor publications in the United States.

Over the years, he has contributed articles and photography to many outdoor publications, including:

  • Sports Afield
  • Deer & Deer Hunting
  • Wild Sheep
  • Ducks Unlimited
  • In-Fisherman
  • Delta Waterfowl

His work focuses on wildlife conservation, hunting and fishing culture, and investigative wildlife reporting.

Author and Media Work

Chester has written 15 books covering topics such as hunting techniques, fish species, and wildlife conservation.  Notable titles include:

  • Hog Wild: Hog Hunting Facts, Tips & Strategies
  • Texas Waterfowl
  • Flounder Fever
  • Flounder Fundamentals

He also hosts several outdoor media programs, including:

  • “Moore Outdoors” radio show
  • “Higher Calling Wildlife” podcast
  • “Dark Outdoors” podcast

Conservation Efforts

  • Moore is deeply involved in wildlife conservation initiatives. Some of his projects include:
  • Flounder Revolution – a program encouraging anglers to release large flounder to help restore populations.
  • Research and awareness efforts about great white sharks in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Educational work focused on wild sheep conservation and habitat protection.

He has received more than 150 awards for writing, photography, conservation, and media work.

Youth and Faith-Based Outreach

Moore and his wife, Lisa Moore, founded several outreach initiatives, including:

  • Higher Calling Wildlife®
  • Wild Wishes® program
  • Kingdom Zoo Wildlife Center®

These programs provide wildlife experiences and mentorship to critically ill children, foster youth, trafficking survivors, and children who have suffered traumatic loss.

Recognition

Among his many honors:

  • Hero of Conservation – Field & Stream magazine
  • Advocatus Magni Award – National Wild Turkey Federation
  • Mossy Oak Outdoors Legacy Award
  • Numerous awards from the Texas Outdoor Writers Association.

The following awards were given.  All recipients received an FCS cap or tumbler and a certificate.

2025 FCS Sporting Clays Shooter of the Year – Bruce Crockett

  • Bruce won five of the eight FCS sporting clays shoots that he shot in.  He also came in second twice and tied for second once (placing in eight of eight shoots).
  • Bruce averaged 44.88/50 for his eight shoots.
  • Bruce tied for the highest score – 48/50 (twice)

2025 FCS Sportsman of the Year – Randy Rowley and Wayne Weilnau (tie) (in addition to a tumbler, Randy received two 300 yard spools of  P-line Floroclear 12 lb. test fishing line (Discount Tackle had it buy-one-get-one-free) and a Yo-Zuri 3DB 4.375″ Pencil Popper; in addition to a tumbler, Wayne received three packages of Egret Baits Vudu Shrimp Soft Baits 2-Pack)
