Information on Frequently-hosted FCS Events

FCS is a 384-member (including 94 supporting members – current with their dues, as of 7/19/24), non-denominational, non-political, family-friendly hunting, fishing, sports shooting, and related activities club, established in Austin, Texas in 1988.  We are non-profit but are not an IRS Section 501(c)(3) religious organization (we have not applied for tax-exempt status because our gross receipts do not exceed $5,000 annually).  We are the area’s longest-running Christian-based hunting, fishing, and sports shooting club, and may be the nation’s longest-running Christian-based club that focuses on all three activities.

We remain based in the Austin area and serve sportsmen by offering affordable quality hunting, fishing, sports shooting, and related fellowship opportunities in God’s creation across the state year-round, encouraging people to establish and maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, encouraging people to serve God and others, and encouraging people to fellowship in a local body of believers that teaches the Bible is without errors.  We love to fish and strive to be fishers of men.

FCS membership, church membership, and being a Christian are not required to participate in FCS events or join FCS; however, FCS members and guests must uphold the FCS Rules of Conduct while on FCS events.  For events where we limit the number of people we can take, we have an Event Hierarchy (pecking order) – supporting members (current in their dues) are given top priority.  Of course, we appreciate it when people join FCS, as that helps us meet our expenses, including our $1,000,000 liability insurance policy and website hosting.

FCS Events

Our 2024 events include:

  • A Chartered Bay Fishing Trip
  • A Family Celebration Banquet
  • A Guided Upland Bird (Chukar, Quail, and Pheasant) Hunt
  • A Self-guided/chartered Blast and Cast (Duck Hunt and Bay Fishing Trip)
  • A Student Sporting Clays Shoot
  • Chartered Hybrid, Striped, and White Bass Fishing Trips
  • FCS Meetings/Dinners
  • FCS Sporting Clays Shoots
  • Guided Duck Hunts
  • Ministry Events (Dinners)
  • Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trips
  • Self-chartered Freshwater Fishing Trips
  • Self-guided Duck and Teal Hunts
  • Semi-guided Dove Hunts
  • Sporting Clays Tournaments

Meetings, dinners, and sporting clays shoots last around 2 1/2 hours, and hunting and fishing trips last from a half-day to four days.

We work hard to succeed, but do not offer a guaranteed harvest for our hunts and fishing trips.

We try to balance expensive and inexpensive events.  Through many years of experience, we have found that inexpensive guided hunting and chartered fishing trips often result in poor harvests (as the saying goes, you get what you pay for) and in frustrated participants who don’t return.  We prefer to pay a standard landowner/outfitter/guide rate for a better chance of success.

Additional expenses often include tips, game cleaning fees (for those who wish to have their game cleaned by the guide), shared boat launch or state or county park entrance fees, shared gas (both vehicle and boat), shared toll road fees, shared lodging expenses, shared bait expenses, and food.

We know that not everyone can afford guided/chartered and semi-guided events; therefore, we offer self-guided/chartered events (without guide fees and tips and game cleaning fees) (although we still share boat launch or park entrance fees, gas (both vehicle and boat), toll road fees, lodging expenses, and bait expenses and everyone pays for their food).  Of course, for our self-guided/chartered events, we usually don’t do as well as we do on our guided or chartered events, as guides are on the water up to 262 days a year (if they are off on weekends), and we’re not on the water more than 24 days a year, generally speaking.  Our equipment is also not as good as the typical guide’s, as their equipment is top of the line and more than we can afford.

FCS Email Distribution List

We distribute regular emails on imminent FCS events, FCS news, and sportsmen’s topics (e.g., TPWD communications, DU and CCA banquets, charity sporting clays shoots, sportsmen’s gear sales, etc.).  To be added to our ‘Future Members’ Google Group (distribution list), contact Randy Rowley, FCS president, at randywrowley@gmail.com (his preference) or 512-922-2484.  Being in one of our Google Groups is the best way to find out about imminent events.  There is no charge, and unsubscribing is easy by simply responding to one of FCS president Randy Rowley’s emails with “Unsubscribe.”

FCS News
  • Occasionally, Bruce Crockett and Steve Baker shoot at the Copperhead Creek Shooting Club sporting clays tournaments.  We do not usually send out emails about these events.  If interested, contact Bruce (his email address and phone number are in our Membership Directory).  Also let Bruce know if you have any questions.
  • FCS president Randy Rowley encourages FCS members and guests to support our fishing guides, Seth Hobbs, Bob Maindelle, and Marty Medford by buying from their stores.  Seth’s is Chasing Stripers, Bob’s is on his website, and Marty has a physical store – Marty’s Landing/Mama’s Kitchen in Port O’Connor.
  • FCS president Randy Rowley is offering his book, ‘Pursuing God’s Way: Meeting God In His Creation’ (which includes 40 stories/devotionals, many from FCS hunting, fishing, and sports shooting events), at a discount to FCS members.  He’ll mail a signed book to you for $14 (including shipping and the mailer; that’s 2/3 of the  Amazon price).  His Venmo is @Randy-W-Rowley, his PayPal is @randywrowley, or you can mail a check to 1007 Oak Hollow Dr., Leander, TX 78641.  He’ll also bring books to FCS meetings, so members can save from paying the $4 shipping fee (for one or two books), and he’ll sign them there.  Contact Randy at randywrowley@gmail.com (his preference) or 512-922-2484 if you want a signed book.  Randy asks FCS members who buy his book on Amazon to please write an Amazon review after reading it.
  • A draft of Randy’s second book, ‘Pursuing God’s Way: Meeting God In His Creation II’ is available.  Contact Randy at randywrowley@gmail.com (his preference) or 512-922-2484 and he’ll email the draft to you at no charge.  Randy will not publish this book unless he sells enough copies of his first book to break even, and that’s a long way away and will not happen unless it’s God’s will.

A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the LORD upholds the righteous.
