Austin City Council approves a resolution to support a ban on the private sales of assault weapons

The wording in the resolution was approved unanimously at their 3/1/13 meeting.  It supports requiring background checks, including those sold at gun shows.  The resolution is crafted around statements from other groups, like the Police Executive Research Forum and the International Association of Police Chiefs Legislative Agenda.  The resolution was sponsored by Councilmen Kathy Tovo, Laura Morrison and Bill Spellman.
