7/2/13 Through God’s Crosshairs

Posted by: | Comments (0)

The April – June quarter of 2013 was a great one for the club.  Our attendance was 129 people, which was our second best for this quarter.  We blew away what was our average for this quarter (61.71).  We had 22 events, which tied our best for this quarter.  We would have had 26 events but the 4/6/13 Shooting Range Shoot did not happen (lack of interest), the 4/7/13 ‘South X Southwest’ Sporting Clays Tournament did not happen (Capitol City canceled it), the 5/11/13 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip did not happen (due to a thunderstorm); and the 5/31/13 – 6/2/13 Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip was postponed (for 7/12/13 – 7/14/13). People frequently ask me what my stance is on such and such gun control bill.  To make things easier for me and the inquiries I have put on thoughts down on electronic paper.

All gun control is about controlling legal gun owners who have done nothing wrong and who probably never will do anything wrong.  It’s not about the guns – it’s about control.  Look at the states and cities with the most gun control – Washington D.C., Detroit, Chicago, New York, etc. and you’ll see that it’s safer to walk down the streets in Afghanistan than it is to do so in one of those cities.  The more gun control that they impose the worst crime becomes.  The states and cities that have the least amount of gun control have the least amount of crime. The January – March quarter of 2013 was a very good one for the club. Our attendance was 112 people, which was our new fifth best for this quarter. We blew away what was our average for this quarter (70.58). We had 19 events, which was our new best for this quarter. We would have had 22 events but we canceled the 1/4/13 – 1/6/13 Winter Dove Retreat (bad weather), a 1/4/13 – 1/6/13 Winter Dove Hunt (bad weather), and a 1/19/13 Self-guided Duck Hunt (none of the hunters could make the hunt).

We had four men join the club, two members renew their memberships, and eleven first time guests! We conducted no votes or polls. Read More→

Happy Silver Anniversary!  The October – December quarter of 2012 started our 25th year as a Club!  Part of me finds it hard to believe that we’ve existed for 25 years.  Another part of me feels like we’ve been together for longer than that!  This occasion has caused me to reminisce.

Here are a few of my favorite memories from the past 25 years: Read More→

The July – September quarter of 2012 was a good one for FCS. Our attendance was 131 people, which was our seventh best for this quarter. We blew away what was our average for this quarter (95.57). We had 19 events, which tied our best for this quarter. We would have had 23 events (our best) but the 8/4/12 ‘Margarita Open I’ Sporting Clays Tournament, 8/31/12 – 9/2/12 Dove Hunt (San Angelo), and 9/14/12 Guided Teal Hunt were canceled due to lack of interest and the 9/29/12 Sporting Clays and Skeet Shoot was rained out. If we had had our average attendance at these events we would have had 159 people (our second best).  We broke the 7000 mark in total attendance (7121) and broke the 700 mark in total events (704). The April – June quarter of 2012 was a great one for FCS. Our attendance was 124 people, which was our second best for this quarter. We blew away what was our average for this quarter (59.00). We had 15 events, which also was our second best for this quarter. We would have had 18 events but the McBride’s Open Sporting Clays Tournament was canceled due to the course being too muddy, the June Student Instructor/Student Sporting Clays Shoot was canceled because the National Shooting Complex could not round up enough instructors, and we moved the Self-chartered Saltwater Fishing Trip to July. FCS members and future members,

By now many of you have read or at least heard about the article regarding deceased FCS officer, Derrich Pollock, that was on the front page of the Austin American-Statesman, titled, “A generosity of spirit gives way to a legacy of deceit” by Claire Osborn (the on-line version is titled, “Great Hills Baptist Church member who died in plane crash accused of scamming people out of several million dollars“).

In the article Ms. Osborn quotes me several times.  I chose to answer her in an effort to present a positive side of Derrich as well as an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ.  The quotations were accurate.  However, she did not include everything that I stated.  I have forwarded my entire reply to you (below).

I want to stress four things: Read More→
