Feeding the Hungry by Randy Rowley
Posted by: | CommentsFarmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry is an outreach ministry of the people of God called upon to feed venison to the hungry among us nationwide. All you need to do is take a field-dressed deer that you wish to donate to the Bon Ton Meat Market (115 South Camino Real Road, Uhland, near Kyle, 512-398-3810) and tell them that it is for Texas Hunters and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. There is no cost to you. They no longer take hogs. For more information contact John Hilgers at 512-350-4011. Read More→

Guide and Outfitter Reviews and Recommendations
Posted by: | CommentsBass Fishing with Ander Meine of Bassquatch Fishing
Randy Rowley recommends Ander Meine of Bassquatch Fishing for chartered bass fishing (with lures, of course), predominantly on Lake Bastrop (although he does fish Lady Bird Lake, Lake Austin, etc.). Ander is very knowledgeable and a very successful tournament angler. Roy Brigman caught 12 bass and Randy caught five on 9/4/15 and they both learned a lot. Contact Ander at (435) 313-1838 or andermeine@gmail.com. Read More→

Operation Orphans by Mark Dillow
Posted by: | CommentsReligion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress… James 1:27a, NIV
Members, I have long been convicted that as a Christian group, we first and foremost should reflect the character of Christ. As a hunting and fishing fraternity, we should look for ways to support our sports, and introduce others to it. I discovered a group in Mason that allows us to “look after orphans” and introduce young people to hunting. Read More→
Selling and Buying Guns by Randy Rowley
Posted by: | CommentsI am often asked for recommendations on selling and buying guns. During a nine-month period, I used Texas Gun Trader and sold eight guns through it. All eight sales went off perfectly and were pleasant transactions. Texas Gun Trader does not charge you to run ads with up to four photos. When you sell your gun and remove the ad, they’ll ask you if you sold it to someone who contacted you via their service. If you say yes, they’ll ask you for a voluntary donation. Gun Broker and Guns America charge a lot for their ads, so this is truly a great deal. Read More→
Taxidermy
Posted by: | CommentsBig Rack Taxidermy by Mr. Charles Batts
I have started using Big Rack Taxidermy Service here in Austin. If someone needs a quality job done at a reasonable price, I recommends these folks. Tell them that I suggested them. They are located at 8739 Hwy. 290 West. Jesse is a Master Taxidermist and does great mounts. He did my South Texas javelina and it looks like it is alive and very angry. He may also save you some money. Contact Jesse Cortinas at 512-288-1646 (Work) or 512-663-2322 (Cell). Read More→

Cabela’s by Randy Rowley
Posted by: | CommentsRandy Rowley recommends Cabela’s retail store in Buda. When I walked into Cabela’s for the first time all we could say was “WOW!” I knew that they had mounts but it’s really best described as part store and part museum. Easily 1/5 of the store is a museum. The store has over 500 mounts; the majority are full-sized. The poses are very realistic. Read More→

Posted by: | CommentsHUNTINGsmart! Online Hunter Education Course by Randy Rowley
Posted by: | CommentsI took the HUNTINGsmart! course on 9/29/21 because it was a requirement to hunt at Fort Hood, which does not honor state exemptions. It costs $28.95, plus a state fee of $5.36 (total = $34.31). For hunters under the age of 17, a field course is also required for certification. It was an extremely thorough course that covered just about everything. It included 15 modules and several pre-tests before the 50-question test. Read More→
Muck Boots by Randy Rowley
Posted by: | CommentsThe problems with your typical rubber boots are they don’t do a good job of keeping your feet warm and they take on a foot odor. Muck has solved these problems with their breathable Airmesh linings (similar to the linings in running shoes).
They also feature stretch-fit topline bindings that fit snug to your calves to keep warmth in and cold out, added toe protection with a wrap-up toe bumper, kick rims for hands-free removal, additional Achilles reinforcement, 5mm CR flex-foam booties with four-way stretch nylon, and the outsole wraps the entire perimeter to provide maximum protection and stability. They are lightweight, flexible, buoyant, and comfortable! The comfort range is from -20° F to 75° F!
I got a pair of their Edgewater boots for $80.95 plus shipping. From what I can tell the only difference between their Edgewater and Fieldblazer boots is the later has camo uppers (but no one will see them because they’ll be covered with your pants) and costs $20.00 more! My Edgewater’s are now the only boots that I wear while deer and/or hog hunting in cold and cool weather. Muck makes several other models, including Wetland and Wood versions.

Rogue Fishing.Co The Protector Phone Tether 3.0 by Randy Rowley
Posted by: | CommentsIf you’re like me, you always take your camera with you when fishing and hunting from your boat, to capture God’s glorious sunrises and sunsets, pictures of friends with fish and ducks, videos of friends catching fish and incoming ducks, etc. Often those pictures are much better than the same ones taken from land. But I worry about dropping my expensive phone in the lake, bay, etc. due to slippery and cold hands. Rogue Fishing.Co has solved that problem with their The Protector Phone Tether 3.0. Read More→

Posted by: | CommentsThe USRAC System offers heavy duty gun security protection. It’s constructed of T-6 aluminum and high carbon heat-treated steel and is rubber-coated to protect items from scratches. It’s hidden mounting system makes it tamper-proof, damage-proof, and theft-proof. It is offered in wall-mounted or car-mounted versions. Their products are made in the USA. MSRP is $210. Read More→
As you know, I do a lot of early morning fishing trips and duck hunts from my boat, so it’s paramount to have reliable spotlights that are bright, waterproof, and float. The problem with a corded spotlight such as Q-beam’s is they often spark when you plug them into an outlet that is wet (as is often the case in boats), which also can cause them to not work or stop working.
