Lake Decker Closures by Randy Rowley

Jim McGee, Tim Price, and I arrived at Lake Decker on Saturday, 6/1/13 at around 5:15 AM for an FCS morning self-chartered bass fishing trip, only to find the gate to the park closed and locked and a signed that said something like “Park Closed for Irongirl Triathlon.” We then went and fished Lake Austin.

Through a series of e-mails, I learned that the City of Austin Special Events are posted at http://www.austintexas.gov/fullcalendar/288. Several events will probably be listed each weekend. You can then click on the event and find out where it’s located and if it will involve any closure of Lake Decker.

I encourage you to check that website prior to heading to Lake Decker to avoid wasting gas and time.
