5/18/24 – 5/19/24 Student Sporting Clays Shoot
(From Randy Rowley)
Fourteen shooters (eight on Saturday and six on Sunday), including five first-time guests, had a good time at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio. We had either a 2:1 student to instructor ratio or a 1:1 one and shot anywhere from three – six boxes each. The target presentations were teal, quail, and one rabbit – they were easier than they were in year’s past. Chris Rowley learned a lot. They added an air conditioned cart this year.
(From Allen Gann)
Well this event was a blast. And, yes, the air conditioned cart was awesome. My group shot Sunday morning, and a couple of our group shot the afternoon round as well as they needed a few more shooters. Yes, a lot of the shots were pretty easy, but if you learned one thing that will make you a better shooter it was absolutely worth it. I talked with Craig, and he really appreciated our support. It helps his student instructors tremendously as there were all different levels of shooters. The good shooters challenged his students to instruct at a different level. This event was for the student instructors benefit and we learned something along with them. A job well done on everyone’s part.
(From Jeff Morris)
I enjoyed the experience and learned a ton. Will be interested to see if my scores improve with my newfound ability.
4/27/24 FCS Sporting Clays Shoot
Five shooters had a good time on Capital City Clays’ red/corporate/hunter course on a windy and overcast morning. The wind did many peculiar things to the targets, often when the shooter said ‘pull,’ consequently, the scores weren’t as high as they probably would have been if it wasn’t so windy. The north side of the course was definitely easier than the south side. For example, Randy Rowley broke his first 16 targets, and then went 20/34, and Tim Price shot 23 of his first 24 and then went 16/26. The A bird on Station 5 was particularly tough – the combined group went 2/15 on it.
After the shoot, two participants enjoyed lunch at Maxine’s Gumbo House in Manor.
The scores were as follows:
Tim Price – 39/50
Randy Rowley – 36/50
Paul Ellis – 35/50
Jeff Morris – 33/50
Chris Rowley – 20/50
