10/26/19 Self-chartered Bass Fishing and Duck Scouting Trip
Four participants had a good time at the 10/26/19 Self-chartered Bass Fishing and Duck Scouting Trip on Lake Stillhouse Hollow. Chris Campbell caught a dink bass. Before the sun came up, we saw easily a couple hundred ducks and coots, especially around the island. After the sun came up they were spotty at best, but it was a Blue Bird day. We found three solid options where we can hunt.

6/6/19 – 6/9/19 Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip
Twelve fishermen had a great time at the 6/6/19 – 6/9/19 Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip to Port O’Connor. The heat index was off the charts and lots of water and Gatorade were drank.
Wayne Weilnau’s crew ended with 21 keeper trout that measured between 17 to 22.5 inches. Most came on gold spoons, although we had a few on soft plastics, Vudu shrimp, chicken on a chain. Wayne caught nine, Binh Chu caught caught six, Jim McGee caught four, and Harley Chu caught two. Binh caught two 22.5″ redfish on soft plastics. Jim caught a 37″ black drum on a crab and a 27″ Jack Crevalle on a gold spoon. Wayne also caught a sea turtle with a 24″+ diameter. They also caught ladyfish, gafftops, hardheads, undersized trout, reds, sheepshead, and black drum.
Daryl Shipper’s crew caught several trout, a couple redfish, including Daryl’s 35″ bull redfish, some sharks, two turtles, and Mark Moore was the hard head champion. They fished the jetties, surf, and the back bays. They saw a lot of crabs swimming around that were destroying their croaker when we were in the surf. They fished with shrimp, croaker, crab, several plastics, and spoons. All four men went home with fish.
Randy Rowley’s crew caught a few redfish, including Randy’s 20″ slot red, a couple sharks, a trout, a gafftop, a couple ladyfish, and several croaker, hardheads, and perch. Randy also hooked a large sting ray that they lost at the boat and what looked like a large trout that got caught up in Earl Prochnick’s line and then got off. They fished the jetties and back bays with shrimp, croaker they caught, crab, and several artificials. Mr. Murphy visited the group on Saturday afternoon, giving Cam (the Rowley’s boat) a dead starter battery. Fortunately there was another boat nearby that gave them a jump.
We appreciated Wayne’s hospitality for sharing his wonderful house again.

Four fishermen had a good morning on Lake Decker. Chris Rowley caught the largest, an 18″ largemouth, on a spinnerbait. Randy Rowley caught a 15 3/4″ and a dink largemouth, both on a deep diving crankbait. He lost a nice one at the boat, along with his Whopper Plopper. He and Luis Almanza both lost nice ones that head shook their crankbaits. Monalisa Almanza lost a nice one that hit her crankbait and took the bait 10 yards to the right.

5/18/19 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip

Burl Fulenwider caught a dink bass on a lipless crankbait. Randy Rowley had a bass on an Yumbrella rig, but it shook it’s head and threw the lure off. The weather dudes predicted a 70% chance of rain, but they didn’t get a drop until they were trailering the Rowley’s boat.
5/6/19 Chartered Fishing Trip
16 participants had a good time at the 5/6/19 Chartered Fishing Trip on Lake Buchanan.
Earl Prochnick’s crew:
Captain John’s boat treated six FSC fisherman to an enjoyable afternoon and evening of fishing on Lake Buchanan. The first anchor drop didn’t hold and the fish were not biting. Captain John went to another location he said contained two drop offs and typically enough schools of fish. This location yielded 24 keeper white bass using jigging since the fish were not interested in the shad. The fisherman also caught six catfish.
Daryl Shipper’s crew:
Captain Travis’ boat had five fisherman with a perfect evening. The first spot we went to we caught three striper keepers with about thirty white bass on shad and slabs jigging off the bottom. We stayed at the same place for some time and saw many fish on his graph, but most of them had lock jaw and were not interested in the baits. We stopped at two other places on the way in and drifted with no luck at either stop.
Randy Rowley’s crew:
Captain Fermin’s boat had trouble finding fish that would bite. We went to numerous places, but only had luck near the dam – landing two stripers, five white bass, and a crappie. Jim McGee caught the largest striper – a 24 incher.
4/19/19 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip
Three fishermen mostly enjoyed the scenery and battled the wind on the 4/19/19 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Travis. Roland Olivarez caught a 15″ bass, Jim McGee caught a dink bass and a perch, and Randy Rowley had a dink bass get off at the boat. The water was ultra clear.
4/12/19 – 4/14/19 Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip (Corpus Christi)
Eight participants mostly enjoyed the scenery and battled the wind on the 4/12/19 – 4/14/19 Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip and Lodging on a Floating Cabin near Corpus Christi. Jose Primera caught the largest fish – a 28″ redfish. Ian Daniels caught about a 4 lb. gafftop and about a 2 lb. whiting. Randy Rowley caught a 16 1/2″ flounder. Jim McGee caught the only legal trout – a 15 incher.
We enjoyed the company on each boat as we started fishing on Friday afternoon once we arrived onsite and unloaded. Many small trout, gafftop, whiting, and hard heads were the main species for the day.
Saturday was a tough day with the wind blowing 20 plus mph and lots of shallow areas. We started the day off looking for the boat key that Mr. Murphy had hidden and latter revealed on Sunday when packing to leave.
Sunday was limited as we had to pack and take our clothes, sleeping bags, etc. back to the trucks. We only fished the swirling waters by the 361 bridge. We mainly caught perch and whitings, but that is where Randy landed his flounder on a swimming mullet.
Mr. Murphy also showed up again on Randy’s truck with coil #3 being replaced on the third trip Daryl went on with Randy. I guess Daryl can no longer go unless Randy has a spare coil or auto parts available.
There was some cabin porch fishing which turned a lot of small speckled and sand trout to the porch and then back in the water. We had some nice dining at Snoopy’s and Doc’s below the causeway at Marker 37 Marina. The marina was really nice and they have just about anything you might need to fish with or drink. We also had the privilege to watch the Blue Angels perform on Saturday in Corpus Christi. Thanks to Daryl Shipper for leading the event.
3/16/19 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip
Three fishermen mostly enjoyed the scenery and battled the wind on the 3/16/19 Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trip on Lake Decker. Dustin Rhodes caught a 15 1/2″ bass on a shad colored swim bait. Burl Fulenwider and Randy Rowley didn’t get a hit.
