2001 Shoots Reports

12/8/01 Sporting Clays Shoot
Four members had a good time at the 12/8/01 Sporting Clays Shoot at the Cypress Valley Preserve range. It was a windy day that made shooting difficult to say the least.
For the first round, Kenny Hill came in first place with 27/50. Ron Denison came in second place with 25/50. Tim Price came in third place with 23/50. He was followed by me, Randy Rowley, with 20/50.
For the second round, Tim came in first place with 34/50. Ron came in second place with 31/50. Kenny came in third place with 27/50. He was followed by me with 19/50.
Cypress Valley was significantly different and more challenging than Capitol City. There is a trail that winds through the course. All the stations were either on or just off the trail. We had to shoot quickly on many of the stations because if you didn’t the bird would go behind trees or bushes. There was even one station that you had to shoot either kneeling or crouching! The doubles were on-report, and the second bird was always different than the first bird.
Thanks to Kenny Hill for inviting us to Cypress Valley.
8/25/01 Sporting Clays Shoot
Fourteen participants (eleven men and three youth) had a great time at the 8/25/01 Sporting Clays Shoot at the Capitol City Trap & Skeet Club.
Larry Dowden and guest Paul Ellis tied for first place with 32/50. Larry recently purchased a Browning Citori and it paid off handsomely giving him his first victory at a FCS sporting clays shoot. Paul led from the third station on, but Larry caught him on the last station. This was the first time that Paul had shot in four years! Tim Price, and I, Randy Rowley, tied for second place with 31/50. I led from the third station onwards but Tim caught me on the last station. Derrich Pollock came in third place with 26/50. He was followed by John Coleman with 24/50, Ron Denison with 18/50, guest Jim Kesterson and Jesse Price with 15/50, first time shooter and guest Jonathan Prince with 13/50, and Dennis Koch with 12/50.
5/5/01 Sporting Clays Shoot
Three shooters had a great time at the Quarterly Shotgun Shoot on Saturday, May 5, 2001 at the Capitol City Trap & Skeet Club.
Tim Price and Randy Rowley tied for first (we think) and Jesse Price came in second. Randy broke 32 targets for sure. Tim’s and Jesse’s scorecards got mixed up on station 6 but it looks like Tim also broke 32 targets and Jesse hit 16.
Tim got off to a fast start. By the end of station 3 he had a four bird lead on Randy. Station 4 was a turning point with Randy breaking all five targets while Tim was stumped. However, Tim broke all five of station 5’s birds and Randy only hit one, giving Tim a three bird lead. On station 6 Tim broke two and Randy hit all five, tying the match up. Station 7 saw Tim gain a one bird lead and Randy tied it up again on station 8. Tim went up one again on station 9 but Randy hit one more on station 10 resulting in the tie.
Surprisingly all three shooters shot better on the last 25 targets, which are usually harder than the first 25 (Randy hit 20, Tim 17, and Jesse 10).
2/24/01 Sporting Clays Shoot
Eleven participants (nine men and two youth) had a great time at the Quarterly Sporting Clays Shoot held on 2/24/01.

He was followed by Hubert Jarc with 25, David Chalmers with 24, Gene Morrison with 20, Garrett Coleman with 17, John David Morrison with 16, Charles Cutchens and Derrich Pollock with 15, and Jesse Price with 12.
