Pole Mud Anchor for a Kayak, Canoe, etc.

By

To build a pole mud anchor:

  1. Buy an anchor spike adapter.  Screw it onto a standard 5′ wooden painter’s pole (attach the spike to the pole with Gorilla Super Glue Gel to ensure the spike wont screw off or you can cut off the end of the painter’s pole (that screws into a paint roller) and whittle that end to a sharp point).
  2. Wrap the pole with camo duct tape (optional; I did this as my kayak, Little Cam, is camo).
  3. Add around 8′ of paracord (I used camo; tie one end to the pole and the other end to a carabiner clip; you might have to drill a hole through your painter’s pole to run the paracord through).
  4. Attach the carabiner clip to to an unused pad eye or cleat on your kayak (add one to your kayak if you don’t have an unused one; you can forgo the carabiner clip and just tie the paracord directly to an unused pad eye or cleat).
  5. Add two paddle holders to your track system to hold the pole (if you don’t have a track system you can screw them directly onto your kayak).
