1/1/18 State of the Club Report

2017 was a fair to good year for the club.  Highlights include:

• Our attendance was 418 people, which was our twelfth best.  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics page.
• We had 63 events, which tied for our fourth best.  This was six events short of the 69 that we had planned.  The difference was I was not able to lead as many self-chartered bass fishing trips as I had planned due to a major surgery.  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics page.
• We averaged 6.63 attendees per event, which was our twenty eighth best.  This is not a significant concern.  I took guys on 11 events in my boat or on self-guided walk-in duck hunts (six self-chartered bass fishing trips and five self-guided duck hunts).  As the most people that I can fit in my boat or do a walk-in duck hunt with is four, counting me, these trips made our overall average lower.  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics page.
• Our sporting clays tournaments category attendance was our second best (42; the record is 44).  Our hog hunt category attendance tied our third best (21; the record is 24).  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics and Attendance pages.
• We tied our second best attendance for a semi-guided hog hunt (15; the record is 17) and tied the event attendance record for a self-guided largemouth bass fishing trip (4).  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Events Statistics and Attendance pages.  Also, see our Records page (there is not a year-by-year comparison).
• We had 10 people join the club (our eighth best; the record is 32).  For a year-by-year comparison, see our New Members page.
• We had 20 members renew their memberships (our sixth best; the record is 52, since we have been keeping records in this category).  For a year-by-year comparison (since 2006), see our Membership Renewals page.
• We ended the year with 59 supporting members (tying our third best; the record is 81).  For a year-by-year comparison (since 2002), see our Supporting Members Summary page.
• We had 32 first time guests (tying our ninth best; the record is 50, since we have been keeping records in this category).  For a year-by-year comparison (since 2002), see our First Time Guests page.
• During Fiscal Year 2017 (9/1/16 – 8/31/17) we took in $1,562.54 in membership dues which is for single and multiple year renewals of 2, 3 and 5 years.  Allocated 2017 membership revenue is $877.05.  We spent $952.58, for a net loss of $75.53.  For the ministry fund, we took in $669.69 and spent $252.46, for a net profit of $417.23.  For a year-by-year comparison, see our Finances web page.

For 2018, I will oversee planning, promotion, and reporting of the following events:

• FCS Meetings (six events)
• Guided Upland Bird Hunt (one event)
• Ministry Event – Wild Game Dinner (one event)
• Self-chartered Bass Fishing Trips (11 events; my bass rotation is in effect)
• Self-guided Coastal Blasts and Casts (Duck Hunts and Bay Fishing Trips) (two events)
• Self-guided Dove Hunts (San Saba) (four events)
• Self-guided Inland Duck Hunts (six events; my duck rotation is in effect)
• Self-guided Hog Hunt (one event)
• Semi-guided Hog Hunt (one event)

Bruce Crockett will oversee planning, promotion, and reporting of the following events:

• 24-hour Sporting Clays Shoot (one event)
• Sporting Clays Tournaments (18 events)
• Sporting Clays Shoots (12 events; one includes a youth group)

Ian Daniels will oversee planning, promotion, and reporting on the following events:

• Guided Inland Waterfowl Hunts (seven events; four guided inland duck hunts, two guided goose hunts, and a guided teal hunt)

Daryl Shipper will oversee planning, promotion, and reporting of the following events:

• Chartered Freshwater Striped/Hybrid Bass Fishing Trip (one event)
• Self-chartered Bay Fishing Trip (one event)

Art Barrera will oversee planning, promotion, and reporting of the following events:

• Self-guided Uvalde Dove Hunts (two events)

Michael Armstrong will oversee planning, promotion, and reporting of the following event:

• FCS Banquet (one event)

We begin 2018 with two fewer officers – we’re losing Ken Miller and Steve Baker, who will be taking a break from service.  Ken has served since 2010 as one of our vice presidents.  Steve has served since 2015 as one of our event coordinators.  Thank you both for your service!
