Posted by: | CommentsGuadalupe River chapter of Trout Unlimited awarded the Golden Trout Award!
Posted by: | CommentsThe award was presented last week at the annual TU meeting in Madison, WI to Mark Dillow, GRTU Chapter President. The Golden Trout award signifies GRTU as the top Trout Unlimited chapter for this year, out of about 380 chapters nationwide. Each year chapters are nominated and one chapter is selected by the Trout Unlimited national leadership. The criteria is based on the chapter’s performance in several areas including conservation, education, community service, and support of Trout Unlimited’s goals of protection, restoration, reconnection and sustaining our cold water fisheries. The award recognizes the cumulative efforts of many leaders and volunteers over the past years to build this chapter into the largest chapter in the nation, with 5,000 members statewide. Read More→

Mentors for Young Hunters Key to Hunting’s Future
Posted by: | CommentsA Plan for Non-gun Owners to Pay Fees for Not Owning Guns
Posted by: | CommentsVermont State Rep. Fred Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as well as Vermont’s own Constitution very carefully, and his strict interpretation of these documents is popping some eyeballs in New England and elsewhere. Maslack recently proposed a bill to register non-gun-owners and require them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun. Read More→
Ammo Registration in California
Posted by: | CommentsAB962 requires individuals purchasing ammunition be fingerprinted and registered at the time of sale and mandates that dealers keep these records and make them available for inspection by the California Department of Justice. Ammunition retailers will also have to store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. Finally, mail order ammunition sales are prohibited under AB962.
Over twenty years ago, Congress abolished similar requirements because ammunition sales records were found to be useless for solving crimes. AB962 is a dire threat to our Second Amendment rights in the Golden State.
A R-eel Fish Story
Posted by: | CommentsCB Hardware has studied them and found them to be excellent. They are both high quality items and are not cheap. If you or anyone you know needs one of these items, please call them for a price. These are normally sold at list price as per agreement with the factory. Charles and Chuck both have them and swear by them. Call Chuck at 512-257-8778 and tell him who you are an FCS member (if you are indeed one) and he will give you a special price.

BATFE Changes Firearm Regulations
Posted by: | CommentsThe Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) has posted a ruling declaring any shipment of a firearm by a manufacturer (FFL) to any agent or business (e.g., an engineering-design firm, patent lawyer, testing lab, gun writer, etc.) for a bona fide business purpose will now be considered a “transfer” under the Gun Control Act of 1968. Lake Decker Closures by Randy Rowley
Posted by: | CommentsJim McGee, Tim Price, and I arrived at Lake Decker on Saturday, 6/1/13 at around 5:15 AM for an FCS morning self-chartered bass fishing trip, only to find the gate to the park closed and locked and a signed that said something like “Park Closed for Irongirl Triathlon.” We then went and fished Lake Austin.
Through a series of e-mails, I learned that the City of Austin Special Events are posted at http://www.austintexas.gov/fullcalendar/288. Several events will probably be listed each weekend. You can then click on the event and find out where it’s located and if it will involve any closure of Lake Decker.
I encourage you to check that website prior to heading to Lake Decker to avoid wasting gas and time.
